If you have never met a Homeschool Mom, you might base your opinion by the Judgey McJudgey's of the world filling the public with negative propaganda. Portraying them as crunchy granola moms who use essential oils to heal everything, making their own clothes from sheep wool and only eating fresh organic produce grown on their homestead. This isn't a damn Lifetime original movie and that nonsense is not the reality. Others may classify these moms as batshit crazy for taking on home education. I may have even felt that way myself on a number of occasions and that is only because I know my own limits and do not feel that I would be a successful homeschool mom. BUT....if I HAD to step up to this difficult task, I would handle that shit like a boss and do whatever is necessary for my family. And that is EXACTLY how a Homeschool Mom thinks. They do whatever is needed to ensure their family legacy is successful and flourishing.
But do not think that it comes without great struggle as well. There are no breaks. There is no time away at work interacting with other adults. There are no quiet days while the kids dash off to school to hit the gym and grocery store. It is 24/7 to it's fullest. These moms who make home education a priority receive so much criticism from the outside world WHEN they themselves are their own massive critics. It is not easy being the EVERYTHING that your child needs to grow into a strong, thriving adult. There are many doubts, many tears and many days of wondering if they are doing enough. They lose their shit and have to remind themselves that they are the adults among children still learning how to think. But the reality is that this is all of us. We ALL as mothers question every single thing we do for our families and wonder if it is enough. They say it takes a Village to raise a child, and it does. This is just a different kind of Village. So don't judge it.
The Homeschooling movement is on the rise and for a multitude of reasons from location and access to quality schools, to curriculum choices and learning outside the box, all the way to health and safety. Homeschool Moms work hard researching the top online Math & LA curriculum to provide. They develop creative ways to take Science & History outside the classroom. They allow Art and Music fill the soul everyday so that their children can feel it to their core. They take on the local American Ninja Warrior youth club for a level of fitness our public school children will never see. They socialize and belong to sports and other Homeschool Groups in their community in an effort to keep their children well immersed in society. And recess is full of fresh air and imagination!
Our world is full of incredibly famous people from presidents to inventors and actors who were all homeschooled by their mothers:
(in no particular order)
(in no particular order)
Frank Lloyd Wright - Architect
Susan B. Anthony - Reformer and Women's Rights Leader
Joseph Pulitzer - Newspaper Publisher who established the Pulitzer Prize
Ray Kroc - Founder of McDonald's fast food chain
Mary Walker - Civil War physician and recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor
Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln and the Wright Brothers (if you don't know what any of these guys did, maybe homeschooling would have been a better choice)!
Looking for more of a celebrity vibe on the homeschool topic...The Jonas Brothers, LeAnne Rimes, Jennifer Love Hewitt and even Charlie Chaplin.
Now don't misunderstand my article. I am not solely promoting homeschooling nor am I saying anything negative about public or private education institutions. Personally we send our children to a private school. That is what is best for our family at this particular time. I am merely shedding light on this magnificent group of moms who may not even understand their own worth. They truly are Badass Super Moms in my opinion. So the next time you come across a Homeschool Mom or a Homeschool family, remember this article. They are Moms just like any other, working their asses off to make their family unit full of love and opportunity and experiencing everything this life has to offer.
Us Moms are essentially cut from the same cloth. The cloth of Love, Nurture, Teach and then Set Free into the world, our life's work...our little humans.
